چکیده

Abstract Background Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with psychiatric and cognitive dysfunctions. We aimed to investigate depression, anxiety, function of chronic hepatitis (CHC) patients before after treatment direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Forty CHC (20 non-cirrhotic 20 cirrhotic) who had undergone DAA in our outpatient clinic ten controls. administered the Hospital Anxiety Depression questionnaires measure anxiety depression symptoms Cognitive Abilities Screening Instruments (CASI) at beginning 3 months end treatment. Results Sustained virological response (SVR) was achieved all patients. Post-treatment scores showed a significant improvement than pre-treatment ones Regarding CASI, treatment, statistical significance found short-term memory ( P = 0.001), concentration 0.033), abstract thinking judgment 0.024), total 0.001) non-cirrhotic, Also, an seen long-term 0.015), < 0.024) 0.01) cirrhotic. However, these changes were still impaired post-treated cirrhotic compared Conclusions patients' partially improved therapy. Besides, improving status CHC, reversibility dysfunction may indicate importance early stages liver disease.

Direct-Acting Antivirals Cure Innate Immunity in Chronic Hepatitis C.

or a number of years, immunologists have strived to Funderstand the mechanisms associated with treatment-induced eradication of hepatitis C virus (HCV). However, interferon (IFN)-a–based therapies did not allow studies examining the role of the virus itself on innate and adaptive immunity to HCV. The study by Serti et al published in this issue of Gastroenterology provides a unique opportunity ...

Clinical efficacy and tolerability of direct-acting antivirals in elderly patients with chronic hepatitis C

BACKGROUND There is a lack of evidence-based data on aged patients with newer direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) and with shorter duration of treatment regimens involving DAAs with or without ribavirin (RBV) and pegylated interferon (Peg IFN). PATIENTS AND METHODS Medical records of 240 patients treated with DAAs with or without Peg IFN and RBV between January 2013 and July 2015 were retrospecti...

Neuropsychiatric performance and treatment of hepatitis C with direct-acting antivirals: a prospective study

Background Since direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have been approved for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, a small series of patients with new-onset neuropsychiatric alterations have been referred to us. We therefore set out to study neuropsychiatric function in relation to DAAs prospectively. Methods Ten patients with cirrhosis and 12 post-liver transplant (post-LT) patients...

Direct Acting Antivirals in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C and Down Syndrome

Patients with Down syndrome who received blood transfusions, likely in conjunction with cardiothoracic surgery for congenital heart disease and prior to the implementation of blood-donor screening for hepatitis C virus infection, face a substantial risk of acquiring the infection. In the past, interferon-based therapy for chronic hepatitis C infection in patients with Down syndrome was noted to...

Mechanisms of Hepatitis C Viral Resistance to Direct Acting Antivirals

There has been a remarkable transformation in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C in recent years with the development of direct acting antiviral agents targeting virus encoded proteins important for viral replication including NS3/4A, NS5A and NS5B. These agents have shown high sustained viral response (SVR) rates of more than 90% in phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials; however, this is sligh...
